You've got a friend in me

When we lose someone close to us we become inconsolable. Family members gather around to keep each other company and mourn together, this can quickly become too much to handle.

It is quiet common in Ireland to pop out, to escape, from the mourning and sadness to steal away to the local pub. The difficulty with doing this is that in most parts of the country the pub’s regulars will have heard of your sad news and so it is often that you will try to avoid their gaze and they may wish to leave you alone.

But in the bartender you’ve got the friend you need. Even if you have had some difficulties with the bartender in the past all that is forgotten in your hour of need.

More importantly, no matter how busy the bartender is, they will always acknowledge your presence, offer you a small comfort and just be there for you. If you don’t want to talk then they will leave you be. They’ll make sure your glass never goes dry, sometimes for free, and do their best to keep others from bothering you.

The death of a loved one is tough for all. The bartender knows this and will be able to help you through your dark moments.

A country bartender is a champion in this field but in Dublin you may feel like the bartender in your local pub will not be there for you. In the country news of a death in the community will travel fast and so the bartender will know before most people and be ready to help you. In Dublin suburbs and inner city areas this news will not travel at the same velocity, so it is important to always let your bartender know when tragedy strikes so that they can be the best friend to you that they can be.

Remember: it is the bartender that comforts your heart not the alcohol you consume.
